When we were newly married, we lived near Dean’s brother, his wife, and two kids. We were living in an apartment, going to college full-time, and working crazy hours to pay the bills. We were poor little college students and would love when Deron and Sarah would invite us over for dinner.
Their go-to meal was grilled chicken in a delish marinade. They knew how much we loved it so we ate it almost every time we had dinner at their home.
So I had to ask her what was in this amazing chicken marinade recipe. It is beyond simple! I decided to tweak it and add a few more flavors to make it extra tangy and zesty. This grilled chicken marinade will become a staple in your home too!

Should you BBQ with the grill open or closed?
Definitely- closed. You don’t want the drippings to catch fire and dry it out.
I grill the chicken with the grill closed. Hope that helps!

Hi Amber! Love when I hear that the chicken marinade recipe makes it to the favorites folder. Thank you so much for trying my recipe!
This is a good recipe to use up some refrigerator items ( Soy and Worcestershire) sauces that usually go to the back of the shelf. Very easy to assemble the marinade, although I did not put in the brown sugar, afraid it would burn on the grill. I only marinaded the chicken for 40 minutes, but I came out very tender and very tasty. I think piercing the chicken with a fork is a great idea that really helps the marinade get in there. I also scored the chicken lightly with a knife. Definitely will make again.
Hi Eileen! I agree — you usually have most of the chicken marinade ingredients on hand. Thank you so much for trying out the recipe!
This marinade was absolutely fantastic. Piercing the chicken breasts all over really gave the chicken a great flavor throughout, and it did not come out dry at all. This is my new go-to. Thank you!
