Creamy whipped feta cheese dip
If youโve been reading my blog for a while, you know how much I love Mediterranean food! I love how it is so packed with fresh and full flavors. Rich olive oil, creamy and tangy feta cheese, vibrant spices, and tangy lemon are all characteristics of an incredible Mediterranean dish.
This Mediterranean creamy feta dip is no exception! I canโt get enough of it, and I find ways to make this whipped feta whenever possible. Whether itโs on a charcuterie board, a hearty Greek sandwich, or paired with some homemade hummus, this recipe is always a hit.
Why youโll love this whipped feta dip
There are so many things to love about this delicious dip, itโs impossible to choose just one.
- No cooking required: You can make this in a blender, food processor, or with a standing mixer. No standing over the stovetop and no need to turn on the oven! Another bonus is that youโll only dirty one dish when preparing this creamy dip. And who doesnโt love less dishes?
- Simple ingredients: Everything that you need for this dip can be found at your local grocery store. You shouldnโt have to buy any exotic spices or ingredients that you would use for this recipe alone! Most ingredients are things that you already have in your fridge or your pantry.
- All-around pleaser: This dip pairs well with almost anything! I use it to clean out veggies from our fridge, including peppers, carrots, cucumbers, broccoli, celery, and whatever else you have on hand. We love eating it with pita bread, homemade naan bread, crackers, and pretzels, or using it as a spread on sandwiches. Itโs an incredible side to some Greek chicken, Greek potatoes, fresh salads, pasta salads, or whatever other Mediterranean meal you are cooking up.
Creamy whipped feta dip ingredients:
Whipped feta cheese is more than just feta! There are some other key ingredients that transform the feta into a flavorful and delicious dip.
- Feta cheese: If possible, use a block of feta, not the boxed feta crumbles. I have found that the whole blocks of feta whip better, taste better, and are overall better quality than the boxed feta.
- Cream cheese: Make sure that the cream cheese is softened before whipping! It will help everything cream together so much easier.
- Mayonnaise: This recipe doesnโt require much mayo, but I have found it important in getting the right texture and creaminess.
- Extra-virgin olive oil: The subtle but rich flavor of olive oil brings some depth to the whipped feta. It also helps to thin out the dip, so add more according to your preference. I also like to drizzle some on top of the dip as a pretty garnish.
- Garlic cloves: I prefer fresh garlic cloves because it keeps this recipe even more vibrant. Make sure that they are finely diced so that the flavor is dispersed throughout the entire dip.
- Dried oregano and red chili flakes: These spices add some additional flavor to the dip. These can easily be adjusted according to your preference! Sometimes, depending on the crowd, I like to up the amount of red chili flakes for some additional heat.
- Lemon zest: I personally think that the lemon zest is what ties it all together. It is fresh, tangy, and vibrant. The perfect balance to the richness of the cheeses, it keeps the dip light.
How to make creamy feta dip:
- Whip the feta, cream cheese, and mayo together. In order to get these to be a light and fluffy texture, whip it together for about 4 minutes so that enough air gets incorporated. Make sure that your cream cheese is softened because it will mix together much better!
- Drizzle in extra-virgin olive oil, finely minced garlic, spices, and fresh lemon zest. I like to use a zester to ensure I only get the lemon skin of the lemon and not the bitter white part. Add more EVOO if desired, depending on desired consistency. It can also be made a little spicy by adding more red chili pepper flakes.
- Let chill until ready to serve. Serve with carrots, cucumbers, red peppers, cauliflower, and pita bread triangles. I like to warm my pita bread so it is extra soft.
How can I make whipped feta dip healthier?
For those that are wanting to cut back on calorie consumption, this dip can easily be modified!
I would start with using a low fat cream cheese, or neufchatel. It can be found at most grocery stores near the regular cream cheese. This is a lower calorie, lower fat option that still has great flavor!
Another way to lighten this dip is to use light mayo, which also has less fat and less calories.
How to store whipped feta
I love whipped feta because it can easily be made ahead for any party or gathering. Keep it in an airtight container in the fridge for up to 7 days after preparation.

I made this for a happy hour this weekend and it was delicious! I made it the night before and used my Kitchenaid mixer. I also drizzled lemon olive oil ( from Queen Creek) on top and it was really good! Great recipe – I highly recommend making!
Planning a Mamma Mia themed party for my friend and I cannot WAIT to make this dip! Itโll be so perfect and it looks delicious!
Absolutely delicious. I added a dollop of tapenade to the center before serving. Will certainly make it again and again.
I love serving grilled shishitos with feta and lemon, but it can be an awkward mess when served as a finger food appetizer. I thought a dip sounded like an easier way to serve them, and was quite pleased to find yours. I followed your basic proportions but instead of whipping all of it together I thinly sliced the feta and crumbled it in at the end for a little texture. Itโs perfect for the shishitos. Thank you.
Tried this recipe as the opening course for a holiday dinner. I made the recipe exactly as printed. I often modify a recipe after making the first time. I will not change a thing! I did make it a day ahead. I think this really helped the consistency and the flavor. The spices and lemon zest had a chance to blend with the feta, mayo, and cream cheese. My guests raved about it. I served it with Pita chip crackers with sea salt. It was match made in heaven.
Had to make copies and share with my guests. It is tasty without being overly pungent.
Will become a regular in our house.
This is heavenly!! My new favorite dip, it is so amazing. I served this with naan bread and veggies and it was gone in 5 minutes!
This looks amazing! Do you think it could work in my ninja blender? I donโt have a mixer yet.
I’ve made this 3 times in one month, and it’s been requested for Thanksgiving as well! I made this exactly as written, it is heaven in a bowl. I decorated with kalamata olives, olive oil, and red pepper flakes. Thank you for creating a hit!
While I was prepping this my wife walked by and commented on how good it smelled, with the lemon, garlic, and oregano. A good sign of things to come, as the dip ended up being a delicious explosion of strong flavors. Loved it, loved it, loved it!
This dip is really good even though I didn’t add the red chili flakes and lemon zest and I had one ounce less of feta cheese than what the recipe required. It’s creamy and I think can be used as a spread for wraps or to help make a sauce for pasta. I made this dip today minus those two ingredients and my relative and I enjoyed it with sea salt pita chips and German gluten-free whole grain crackers. I did add more spices like garlic powder, sweet Hungarian paprika (added no taste), smoked paprika and lemon pepper spice blend to add a lemon flavor. This recipe is a keeper.
