How to make the best Sundried Tomato Cream Marry Me Chicken:

  1. ย Start by heating olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken breasts for about 4-5 minutes per side. Season well with salt and pepper.
  2. Remove the chicken from the skillet and add finely diced garlic. Cook for only 1 minute since garlic can easily burn. Add thyme, red pepper flakes, chicken broth, and cream to skillet.ย  Cook until cream sauce begins to thicken — about 5 minutes. Stir in sundried tomatoes.
  3. Remove from heat and add chicken to the skillet.ย  Spoon sauce all over the chicken.ย  Place in an oven set at 375 degrees and cook for 15-18 minutes to until chicken is cooked through. If using thinly sliced chicken breasts, reduce baking time.
  4. Top with fresh basil and freshly grated parmesan cheese, if so desired.ย

Almost five years before I started Modern Honey, I entered and participated in recipe contests all over the country. One of my most memorable ones had to be Cooking Channel’s Perfect 3 Contest to find the most perfect cookie recipe.ย  The grand prize winner would be flown to New York City to film a segment for a show in the Food Network Studios.

I wanted to win this contest so badly so I got busy right away in the kitchen concocting a brand new cookie recipe in anย attempt to woo the judges.ย  I came up with a saucepan browned butter cookie with toffee notes and both white chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate chips.ย  I named them, “I WANT TO MARRY YOU COOKIES” and shared my own little love story.

I Want to Marry You Cookies. The popular cookie made in one saucepan. The browned butter gives it a rich toffee caramel flavor that everyone loves. www.modernhoney.com

The judges whittled it down to the top 3 and that’s where we had to make our own cooking video showing how to make the cookies. The results came in and I actually won the grand prize! It was an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience and you can read all about it here. But these little “I Want to Marry You Cookies” ended up being the most popular recipe on Cooking Channel in 2012. Now that’s crazy!

So you can serve this Marry Me Chicken and I Want to Marry You Cookies and you should have the perfect meal!

I love to pair this Marry Me Chicken with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus or broccoli. It pairs so well with any type of vegetable!

hi nicole…got a big kick out of your comment. i have never “bribed” my chicken before..must try it……thanks for the mirth…it was a good laugh. it is really a good recipe btw, it’s a do over for our family, who are particular!

Very good. We will be making this again. I double broth, heavy cream, and parmesan. Next time, less pepper and more cheese.

My family loves this chicken. It reminds my husband of chicken Bryan but is a lot easier to make. I may try some goat cheese on top since it is reminiscent of chicken Bryan. One question, my sauce was pretty dried up. Heat too high or cooked too long? Any suggestions?

I’m thinking of what I have in my freezer. Chicken thighs and legs. I might use those instead. I’m sure it will work with those too. Can’t wait to try.

Yes, Shery! I am sure chicken thighs would work as well. Hope you love it! Let me know how it goes, I usually use chicken breast myself.

Iโ€™ve used this recipe many many times for chicken!
Tonight I used the sauce with pasta to accompany salmon!!
    Sooo fabulous!!
    Many thanks!

  6. This turned out FANTASTIC!! A true keeper. Itโ€™s very โ€œfancyโ€ but is not complicated at all. In fact, putting it together was a breeze. I didnโ€™t have sun dried tomatoes but I did have fresh garden tomatoes that I had roasted- so I used a full cup of those. I used an iron skillet so before I added the garlic I had to let my pan cool a good bit so the garlic didnโ€™t burn. Also I used bone in breasts cut in half bc they were huge. If you do this, you need to add more time to the oven cooking (I added 20 min- so 40 total in the oven. And just in case anyone else wonders- this makes plenty of yummy sauce for potatoes or pasta. No need to double the sauce as I often do with other recipes that dont make enough. I guess we are a saucy family.

    1. Thanks for the heads up about the bone in chicken breasts needing more time to cook. I was wondering how much more time I should add to the cook time.

What an awesome comment, Shoby! Thank you so much for explaining what works with the bone in breast. I LOVE how much sauce this recipe makes, itโ€™s one of the best parts! Thank you so much for using my recipe and for taking the time to comment.

Already made this once and my husband raved about it! Iโ€™m going out of town and would like to leave him some as a freezer meal. Any recommendations for freezing?

i made this recently for a dinner party of 12 and am about to make it again for 19. a fantastic recipe. i added button mushrooms and bacon to make it go a little further and cut the chicken breasts in half for ease of serving. i only used a third of the chilli flakes which was about right as I couldn’t get red pepper flakes. A delicious dish which has become a new favourite.

  8. I have made this a couple times and it is one of our favorite chicken dishes! Absolutely delicious!!
So Iโ€™m making it for Christmas Eve and my daughters boyfriend has a dairy allergy. How can I make him a separate dish being dairy free?

    Thanks

  9. Delicious. This will quickly become a go to dinner. Super quick and easy to make. I tried the recipe as written and the next time I made it I added sliced baby portobello mushrooms. If you like mushrooms, they are a delicious add.
