How to make the best Sundried Tomato Cream Marry Me Chicken:

  1. ย Start by heating olive oil in a skillet over medium-high heat. Sear the chicken breasts for about 4-5 minutes per side. Season well with salt and pepper.
  2. Remove the chicken from the skillet and add finely diced garlic. Cook for only 1 minute since garlic can easily burn. Add thyme, red pepper flakes, chicken broth, and cream to skillet.ย  Cook until cream sauce begins to thicken — about 5 minutes. Stir in sundried tomatoes.
  3. Remove from heat and add chicken to the skillet.ย  Spoon sauce all over the chicken.ย  Place in an oven set at 375 degrees and cook for 15-18 minutes to until chicken is cooked through. If using thinly sliced chicken breasts, reduce baking time.
  4. Top with fresh basil and freshly grated parmesan cheese, if so desired.ย

Almost five years before I started Modern Honey, I entered and participated in recipe contests all over the country. One of my most memorable ones had to be Cooking Channel’s Perfect 3 Contest to find the most perfect cookie recipe.ย  The grand prize winner would be flown to New York City to film a segment for a show in the Food Network Studios.

I wanted to win this contest so badly so I got busy right away in the kitchen concocting a brand new cookie recipe in anย attempt to woo the judges.ย  I came up with a saucepan browned butter cookie with toffee notes and both white chocolate and semi-sweet chocolate chips.ย  I named them, “I WANT TO MARRY YOU COOKIES” and shared my own little love story.

I Want to Marry You Cookies. The popular cookie made in one saucepan. The browned butter gives it a rich toffee caramel flavor that everyone loves. www.modernhoney.com

The judges whittled it down to the top 3 and that’s where we had to make our own cooking video showing how to make the cookies. The results came in and I actually won the grand prize! It was an incredible once-in-a-lifetime experience and you can read all about it here. But these little “I Want to Marry You Cookies” ended up being the most popular recipe on Cooking Channel in 2012. Now that’s crazy!

So you can serve this Marry Me Chicken and I Want to Marry You Cookies and you should have the perfect meal!

I love to pair this Marry Me Chicken with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and roasted asparagus or broccoli. It pairs so well with any type of vegetable!

  1. I have all the ingredients to make this, with the exception of thyme. I have ground thyme. And ironically, not enough time to run to the store to get anything else. Is there something I could use in its place or simply omit it?

Delicious!! I have been striking out lately but this great. a new regular.in my kitchen. Doubling the sauce wont hurt a thing!

      dries thyme worked fine

  2. 5 stars
This was delicious/easy/eaten by all, which makes it a keeper. Next time I may add goat cheese and a side of pasta. Waiting for resolutions to fall by the way side :). Thank you for sharing!

    AMAZING!!!
I used the oil from the jar of sundried tomatoes to fry the chicken breasts in – it adds some flavor.
I doubled the recipe so we would have extra sauce to put over angel hair pasta. Also – once I took the pan out of the oven – I put the chicken on a plate and added a bit of corn starch to the sauce to thicken it a bit for the pasta – then added the chicken back in.
Steamed broccoli – garlic bread – this is better than a lot of meals Iโ€™ve had in restaurants!

Absolutely delicious! Will keep this recipe to serve to dinner guests bc itโ€™s that good! I served it over mashed potatoes with green beans on the side. Restaurant worthy in my opinion. I literally went into a food coma afterward. Thank you for this amazing recipe!

    1. This was an amazing company worthy recipe. I made the recipe as stated with no modifications. Question: If it wanted to assemble it ahead and bake a couple hours later would that work?

Absolutely delicious! I changed a few things though. I used boneless skinless chicken thighs, olive oil, s/p, garlic powder 350 oven..40 minutes. Made the wonderful sauce but sautรฉed some chopped onions and sliced mushrooms along with the garlic(which I doubled). Took chicken out after the 40 min, drained the fat, then poured the wonderful sauce over and baked another 15-20 minutes. Garnished with basil. Really good meal!

Thanks for sharing this. I really only use boneless skinless thighs and wanted to know how they would work!

    2. I havenโ€™t made this yet bet definitely plan to! I was thinking that serving/adding some gnocchi would be so good! And I am definitely planning on doubling the sauce and adding mush/onions and more garlic as well. I will probably add more sun dried tomatoes as well just because I absolutely LOVE them!

    1. Slow cookers and Instapots are the ruin of good cooking. Stcik to an iron skillet and your cooking will likely improve!

Instant pots are the salvation of a busy mom! We know some things are better done the long way, but it is still a world better than take out! And some things ARE better in the instant pot. Makes perfect brown rice every time!

This recipe looks amazing and I cannot wait to try it! It will be perfect for Valentines Bunco in February!

  6. Love this recipe!! Itโ€™s a family favorite now. We never have sundried tomatoes on hand so I use a can of diced Italian tomatoes. I always add a handful or two of chopped green olives as well! Itโ€™s so good.

My boyfriend is soooooo picky with what I make for dinner. He wonโ€™t touch a vegetable or anything he didnโ€™t grow up eating. Iโ€™m from Los Angeles and heโ€™s from central Ohio, so we already had our varying diets from the beginning. He LOVED this. I ended up adding capers and artichoke hearts (easy to scrape out of the sauce for him) and it was totally a hit. Highly recommend!!

    1. My step son wonโ€™t eat veggies either, so I purรฉed some steamed cauliflower and added it to the sauce. reduced the amount of cream a little. I hid veggies all the time. Tastes amazing
