It may be the end of December and Christmas has come and gone but we are still gearing up to celebrate the New Year. I am always looking for delicious appetizers that can also be considered a meal…so I love making these turkey and cheddar sliders.

Sliders are such a favorite for game days, holiday get-togethers, and easy weeknight meals. The college football bowl games are still in full swing plus NFL games so these are the perfect little snack while watching a game.

Why you will love these Baked Turkey Sliders:

  • These sliders are so flavorful! These turkey and cheddar sliders on sweet Hawaiian rolls come together quickly and deliver big flavor in every bite. The sweet and savory combination of honey mustard, tender turkey, melty cheddar, and garlicky butter on top of those soft rolls is a flavor powerhouse.
  • These are super quick and easy to throw together. These can be made in less than 5 minutes (just layer on the spread, turkey, and cheddar, and brush with garlic butter) and then bake for about 20 minutes until the cheese is perfectly melted.
  • These make great leftovers! I love that I can keep them in the refrigerator and my kids can grab them anytime they are hungry and reheat in the microwave (at 50% power), in the air fryer, or in the oven.

Ingredients:

This is such a quick and easy turkey slider recipe and you only need simple ingredients — hawaiian rolls, deli turkey, cheddar cheese, honey mustard spread, and a homemade garlic butter.

  • 1 (12-count) package of Hawaiian rolls
  • Turkey deli meat: Use a medium or thicker thickness, depending on preference. Oven-roasted or smoked turkey works great.
  • Cheddar Cheese: Use mild, medium, or sharp cheddar cheese.
  • Honey Mustard Spread
  • Garlic Butter Topping: Melted butter, minced garlic (or garlic powder), and dried parsley.
  • Optional: Pickle Chips: Use your favorite type of pickle chips. *Add these after you bake the sliders.

How to make Baked Garlic Herb Turkey and Cheddar Sliders:

Here’s how easy it is to make these homemade turkey and cheddar sliders.

Slice the Rolls:

  • Remove the entire 12-count block of Hawaiian rolls from the package in one piece.
  • Use a long, serrated bread knife to cut them horizontally into two layers.
  • Place the bottom layer on a foil-lined or lightly greased baking pan (9×13 or cookie sheet often works best). I suggest spraying the foil with non-stick cooking spray.

Assemble the Sliders:

  • Spread about 2 Tablespoons of honey mustard mixture over the cut side of the bottom layer of rolls.
  • Layer half of the deli turkey evenly over the honey mustard.
  • Top the turkey with cheddar cheese slices, arranging them so that each slider will have cheese on it.
  • Repeat with the remaining turkey and cheddar cheese.
  • Place the top layer of rolls over the cheese.

Brush with Garlic Butter:

  • In a small bowl, mix melted butter with minced garlic (or garlic powder) and dried parsley.
  • Use a pastry brush to generously brush the garlic butter mixture all over the tops of the rolls. Let the butter drip down the sides and on the bottom of the rolls.

Bake:

  1. Cover the sliders with aluminum foil (spray the side that will be touching the rolls with non-stick cooking spray) for the first 15 minutes.
  2. Bake in a preheated 350 degree oven for 18-24 minutes total, or until the cheese is fully melted and the tops are lightly golden brown.
  3. Remove from the oven and let them cool for about 5 minutes.
  4. Use a sharp knife to cut the sliders. Serve warm.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ’s):

Can I use a different cheese?
Absolutely! Swiss, provolone, pepper jack, or Colby Jack are great alternatives to cheddar.

Should I use deli turkey or leftover roasted turkey?
Deli turkey is the easiest option. I like to get my turkey from the deli counter so I can ask for thicker slices but you can use any thickness.

Can I make these ahead of time?
Yes! You can assemble the sliders (without baking), cover tightly, and refrigerate up to 24 hours. When youโ€™re ready to serve, brush with garlic butter and bake.

Storage and Reheating:

Reheating: Reheat in a preheated 300-degree oven for about 10 minutes, or until the cheese is melted again. You can also warm them in the microwave in 15-second intervals, though the rolls may not be as crisp.

Storing: Place leftover sliders in an airtight container or wrap them well in foil. Store in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Can I make changes to this recipe? Absolutely! There are so many variations for these hawaiian rolls sliders.

Variations & Substitutions:

Swap turkey for ham, chicken, roast beef, or even bacon.

Try Swiss, pepper jack, Colby Jack, or provolone for different flavor profiles.

If Hawaiian rolls arenโ€™t available, use mini slider buns or dinner rolls.

Substitute a chipotle mayo if you want a spicy kick.

Instead of garlic butter, brush the rolls with a mixture of melted butter, Dijon mustard, poppy seeds, and a touch of brown sugar for a sweeter, tangier finish.
